MGSHD Collection

May 12th marked the momentous day that the Metal Gear 25th anniversary collection t-shirts launched in the UK, featuring designs spanning the series from its 1987 debut with Metal Gear, up until the 2012 adventures of Raiden in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. It was also the day that Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa made a visit to our UK flagship store to meet and greet the masses of MGS fans.

Release Date: June 12, 2012 (OUT NOW!)
Price: $39.99

With the recent release of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Konami answered the call and brought arguably two of the most hyped Metal Gear games in the series back with a HD treatment. This was not simply a port of both games but fully re-mastered experience to the delight of Metal Gear fans and first time players a-like. Konami have now taken the HD Collection to the PS Vita and I’m pleased to say, they haven’t disappointed.

Like most Metal Gear Solid Fans, having played all of the titles included in this collection, I wasn’t expecting any surprises here but like most of the collections that have been released as of late this package offers incredible value with a HD polish to boot. Where else could you get the original NES Metal Gear in 1988, fully re-mastered bundle containing Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker as well as bonus remakes of the original MSX Metal Gears all for roughly 50 US dollars?

The PS3-exclusive “Ultimate Edition” of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will no longer include the previously promised Metal Gear Solid 1, Metal Gear Solid 4, or the five exclusive PSN art cards, Konami have announced. Instead, the edition will include an exclusive Metal Gear Solid T-shirt and a 250-page art book called “Metal Gear Solid: The Art of the HD Collection”.

The edition is exclusive to UK retailer Zavvi, from whom the 4,000-unit issue is already sold out. It retailed for £69.99 and will be shipped in advance of the HD Collection’s UK release date of 3rd February 2012. To apologise for the content change, which was made by Konami, Zavvi are throwing in the Platinum Edition of MGS4 with each order.

You can find out more about the Ultimate Edition on Zavvi’s website here.
