Hideo Kojima

Hideo Kojima was “fired” by upper management at Konami, according to tweets made by Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes voice actress Donna Burke.

“Yes don’t throw away the Kojima teams work over the last 5 years because upper management fired a genius,” Burke tweeted earlier today.

When asked whether she had just confirmed that Kojima was fired, Burke replied: “yes but it’s been out in the media for weeks..but it’s true”

A Konami representative has denied Burke’s claims, telling that the suggestion Kojima has been fired is “categorically incorrect”.

What a mess we still have here. At this point, I strongly feel Konami needs to be more transparent on what ACTUALLY HAPPENED because clearly the community and fans alike actually care what went down. I think good or bad Konami would save themselves a ton of headaches if they just came clean with this mess instead of us learning about this or that from random news outlets and hearsay sources.

An interview done with GamePark which was translated on reddit a couple days ago had all the signs of being legit but since I was not familiar with the site I was reluctant to relay the report due to the large amount of speculation and rumors and false reports out there right now but it looks to be confirmed due to Konami’s new Japanese Metal Gear twitter account retweeting the interview link.

The interview says the following:

Konami Spokesman: Director Kojima will continue being the director of the “Metal Gear” Series

Many users have voiced their anxiety on the upcoming release MGSV:TPP, Game*Spark and Konami’s Editorial Department has provided some answers:

     Will Kojima Productions be disbanded?
Yes. All releases previously made under different studios will be centralized and coordinated from headquarters.

Will Kojima be leaving his position?
Kojima will remain the director of the “Metal Gear” series. He will continue to innovate with new ideas as creator.

What about talks of him stepping down as director? Are those true?
He is still one of our employees, and is continuing to work full-strength on “MGSV:TPP”.

And is it true that he has been changed to a contract employee?
     We cannot reveal private details.

Is it true that KojiPro’s staff have restricted internet and e-mail access?
It is true that the reorganization has resulted in this. This is done in order to provide a greater development environment.

In that case, will Kojima be less available for interviews?
     As a result, yes.

So it seems the source from GameSpot was pretty accurate but it still remains unclear if Kojima will be the Director after this upcoming December when his contract ends. My guess would be no but, there is always wishful thinking. Another fact that shows that the information we got from the GameSpot source appears from Senior Producer Ken Ichiro Imaizumi of now dissolved Kojima Productions on his linkedin profile as seen below confirming his now “contractor” status which we also assume most of KojiPro’s other senior staff members are as well.

A fallout between Kojima Productions and its owning publisher, Konami, has led to senior staff at the studio being restricted access to corporate internet, emails, and phone, GameSpot understands.

Along with the restricted communications, key developers at the studio, such as Hideo Kojima, will now have limited opportunities to lend their appearance to promotions of the studio’s upcoming game, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Power struggles between Kojima Productions and Konami have led the publisher to make drastic changes, including the employee status of its Metal Gear team. Some senior staff at the studio, including Kojima, now essentially work as contractors, not permanent employees.

The extraordinary measures were revealed by a source within the studio, speaking to GameSpot on the condition of anonymity. The person explained that, once the Phantom Pain project is finished, in all likelihood the management at the studio will disband.

“After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami. They said their contract ends in December,” the source claimed.

The person added: “At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that team have to be one and make a good game for fans.”

As always at MGN, we try to at all cost avoid rumors but this one seems compelling enough to at least speculate on, so take what your about to read with a grain of salt to its validity.

KojiPro’s site is now gone and it just redirects to a new MGS portal. Kojima’s Podcast, everything with his name has been removed.

Looks like they have removed traces of “A Hideo Kojima game” from Legacy Collection and Ground Zeroes related pages too.

Looks like the Kojima Productions LA studio, has been renamed Konami Los Angeles Studio.

All branding changes appear to relate to a restructure @ Konami, to what the company calls “a headquarters-controlled system”

Konami has responded to rumours circulating this morning suggesting that Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima has left the company.

In a statement provided to, a Konami representative said: “Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima, will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements.”

Rumours of Kojima’s departure appeared on Reddit earlier today after it was discovered that Kojima Productions’ logos had been removed from the Metal Gear Solid website. Kojima Productions’ website also redirects to Konami’s Metal Gear Solid portal.

The representative declined to comment further when asked about the changes made to the developer’s website.

References to Kojima Productions and Hideo Kojima have also been removed from artwork of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes on Konami’s website (click the image below for higher resolution):

Several days ago,Konami’s cosumer creators left Konami.

And today,EVERY credit of KojiPro &A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME has removed from Konami’s website. KojiPro Twitter account&portal site switched to

Seems like Kojima is no longer Executive offiicer of Konami.

As crazy as this may seem, could this be something Kojima has actually been hinting to us for some time now? For many many years he has felt like he has not had the opportunities to explore new ideas for games because of his close involvement with the games in the Metal Gear series for obvious reasons. If departing Konami for possibly another company or to start his own Kojima could finally try at something new. Our only worry would be around his future involvement in the Metal Gear series and or the Silent Hills game he announced working on recently. Only time will tell, if all of this could possibly be true that is.

Via IGN:

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima says The Phantom Pain will be the final game in the “Metal Gear Solid Saga.”

Kojima has made claims like this before, but in a video interview with IGN, he tackles that reputation head on.

“I always say ‘this will be my last Metal Gear Solid,'” Kojima said, “but the games in the series that I’ve personally designed and produced — Metal Gear on MSX, MG2, MGS1, 2, 3, 4, Peace Walker, and now MGSV — are what constitute a single ‘Metal Gear Saga.’ With MGSV, I’m finally closing the loop on that saga.”

Interesting note here, Kojima does not mention Portable OPS. Does this mean the game once thought cannon by some is really not cannon after all?

“In that sense, this will be the final ‘Metal Gear,'” Kojima continued. “Even if the ‘Metal Gear’ franchise continues, this is the last ‘Metal Gear.'”

On the recently air Kojima Station, Hideo spoke the animals capture system in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. We saw a glimpse of this during the Gamescom gameplay demo presentation that Sean at Kojima productions eluded too but said they would address at a later date.

Like we have seen in the gameplay demos shown thus far you can capture animals via the Fulton system to send back to mother base. As in previous Metal Gear games animals can and will attack Snake but Kojima explained they can also attack enemy patrol units. Thanks to translations from we know what Kojima said in detail. “When Kojima was checking the game the other day, he decided to stand by and watch as a Soviet LRRP got mauled and eaten.”. “When asked if animals will attack each other, Kojima nodded and smiled.” Kojima said “You need to watch out for animals. When taking a path around the back of a base, you might encounter wolves there.”. “He said you could use the capture system to get animals to attack for you.”. “He also said time of day affects the animal system too.”

mgstpp_gc_13_web also mentioned how Kojima before about prioritizing creativity over sales with this game, which is becoming more and more self evident with each new feature introduced into The Phantom Pain. Stay tuned for more.

Looks like  Geoff Keighley is putting on a new Games Award Show but not affiliated with SpikeTV this time and now with the backing of all the major players like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. The Game Awards is set to take place Dec. 5, from the Axis Theater in Las Vegas and you can get tickets to the show via TicketMaster starting yesterday Nov. 11.

Why should you care? Well Geoff has lined up an advisory board, including none other than Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America; Yves Guillemot, CEO, Ubisoft; Hideo Kojima, president, Kojima Prods; Shawn Layden, CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America; Peter Moore, chief operating officer, Electronic Arts; Xbox chief Phil Spencer; Martin Tremblay, president, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment; Rockstar Games and Valve.

Wont be able to attend no problem, instead of airing on SpikeTV it will be air via Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Nintendo and Steam for all to watch.

Last night Kojima was busy tweeting images. One of them being an off screenshot which we can only assume is part a TGS announcement of a “Metal Gear Collection”. What will this collection consist of? We just don’t have enough details to know quiet yet.

It could be the Legacy Collection on Steam, it could be off Metal Gear games collection, or even the HD/Legacy collection on next gen systems, but really who knows. All we can be sure of is, our wallets are never safe :( . Stay tuned for more in the coming days leading up to TGS.
