Hideo Kojima

by -

According to a source speaking with the New Yorker said on Friday, October 9th, Hideo Kojima left the Tokyo offices of Konami, the video-game company where he had worked since 1986, for the last time. The departure ceremony, according to one of the hundred or so guests who attended, and who asked that I not use his name, took place at Kojima Productions, the director’s in-house studio, and was “a rather cheerful but also emotional goodbye.” He said that he did not see Konami’s president, Hideki Hayakawa, or its C.E.O., Sadaaki Kaneyoshi, at the party, but some of Kojima’s colleagues from other studios showed up to pay their respects, as did many of the people who worked on his most recent directorial project, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

The New Yorker also stated that Kojima has a non-compete clause that expires in December (which we’d heard previously). The specifics of this aren’t clear, but it likely means he’ll have to wait until then before being able to sign on with another company. We have first heard his contract was due up in December but it looks like that was just the non compete.

Sad day for Kojima fans and a sad day in Konami’s history indeed.

Upon seeing the once posted then pulled tracks from Konami Japan Rika Muranakahas been busy on twitter letting people know how she feels about re-covered tracks.

She continued on with…

Then stated “I’m not really interested…I’m gonna record my music and release it…All the songs rejected by Hideo Kojima lol.”

Uh, sign us up!!!! *throws money at screen*

Our very own Nitroid then asked her ” just to be sure I’m understanding right, you’re planning to release an album of rejected Metal Gear songs?” She replied saying “Yeah..n I’m gonna write new music if I wrote the score for MGS5? Hahaha”

Earlier this week Kojima shared tweets showing a new game play demo featuring a better look at Mother Base and will be narrated by the Japanese voice actor for Ocelot(Satoshi Mikami).

Translation by Junker.HQ reads: “Good to see you again, Boss. TPP is almost upon us. You pre-ordered yet? Been doing image training?” Junker adds: “Script also says the video will reveal a lot of new elements”.

Kojima has since formally announced on his twitter account that the Mother Base gameplay video will be posted next week during gamescom with english commentary most likely by Sean Eyestone of now disbanded Kojima Productions. This will no doubt be something a lot of Metal gear fans will look forward too.

Back in May Hideo Kojima and Geoff Keighley were pictured at Konami’s Midtown HQ posing in front of Godzilla. This surprise meeting brought up obvious questions, was Kojima finally breaking his silence about his current situation? Was this just a meeting for Geoff’s next Video Game Awards event? All seemed probable at the time.

It seems though, we will finally know on Monday with the full premiere of the 6 minute Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain trailer edited by Kojima himself at 11am(PST) what that meeting was indeed all about.

Geoff also said this on twitter.

Hideo Kojima was “fired” by upper management at Konami, according to tweets made by Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes voice actress Donna Burke.

“Yes don’t throw away the Kojima teams work over the last 5 years because upper management fired a genius,” Burke tweeted earlier today.

When asked whether she had just confirmed that Kojima was fired, Burke replied: “yes but it’s been out in the media for weeks..but it’s true”

A Konami representative has denied Burke’s claims, telling that the suggestion Kojima has been fired is “categorically incorrect”.

What a mess we still have here. At this point, I strongly feel Konami needs to be more transparent on what ACTUALLY HAPPENED because clearly the community and fans alike actually care what went down. I think good or bad Konami would save themselves a ton of headaches if they just came clean with this mess instead of us learning about this or that from random news outlets and hearsay sources.
